22 Jul 2009 - GAA - Clancy linked to Clare post

And two of his team-mates from the Banner County's famous 1992 Munster SFC winning team - Aidan Moloney and Brendan Rouine - have also been mentioned as possible successors to Frank Doherty, who stepped down in the wake of last Saturday week's All-Ireland qualifier defeat to Donegal.

A Clare Football Advisory Committee members said: The time has come to give others who were part of his panel in 1992 a chance to do what John Maughan did - lift the county up from nothing to compete with the best.

"A number of members of the 1992 team have been involved in Clare teams before, so others who have yet to get involved should now step up and give it a go.

"I'm talking about the likes of Aidan Moloney and Brendan Rouine, who are involved in senior club management, and Seamus Clancy, who was one of the hearts and souls of that team in '92."

Moloney is currently managing Cooraclare, while Rouine is in charge of Ennistymon. Clancy turned down offers to become a selector under both Doherty and his predecessor Paidi O Se, but the top job may interest him
