28 Apr 2009 - Banner Ladies Football Club - Banner Ladies U-14's Win 2009 Clare Féile

Banner Ladies 4-3 West Clare Gaels 0-4

An evenly contested first half saw our girls trail 0-2 to 0-1 at the interval. However the banner ladies put in a storming second half display to run out convincing winners in the end.

Banner Ladies 0-8 Newmarket 2-1

Leading 0-3 to 0-1 at the interval our girls had to fight all the way when Newmarket struck for two second half goals. The composure and never say die attitude of the team was exemplary and they scored five second half points despite playing into the breeze. Generally goals win matches but in this instance the opposite was true.

A special word of mention to full back Elaine Casey and centre forward Karen Roche who were both outstanding in this game. Naturally all other players were heroines also and the team celebrated well in SuperMacs afterwards.

A delighted club chairman Pat O'Driscoll congratulated the girls following their win and Clare County Board secretary Michael Fitzpatrick presented the winning trophy to team captain Orlaith Hennessy.

A gallant Newmarket side did not go home empty handed as their captain and star player Niki Kaiser was presented with the Féile Shield trophy. The Newmarket girls also have the consolation of being the Clare representatives at the Camogie Féile na Gael and all at the Banner Ladies Football Club wish them the best of luck.

All eyes will now be focused on the national Féile Peil na nÓg Finals which this year are being held in Kildare over the first weekend in July.
